Advancing business-friendly legislation at all levels

Advocating for business at the city, county and state levels on important issues that affect our business community is our top priority. Local governments look to us as the business voice and through our collaboration with the City’s 10 Point Plan. We have several mediums through which we advocate for the business community, including the Government Affairs Committee. The chamber takes an educated stand on advancing legislation at all levels and advocating for candidates and bills that will shape the future of the business community.

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

The GAC is the primary body through which the Chamber establishes a position on advancing motions and legislations at the city, state and federal levels. At every meeting, the committee features not only its members but also representation from the offices of local elected officials, such as our state senator, assemblypersons, county supervisor and city council members. Meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of every month at 8 a.m. at the Chamber office. Non-investors can attend the GAC meeting as a guest of a committee member a total of two (2) times. Email hbchamber@hbcoc.com to be added to the GAC Platform email list.

Committee Member Eligibility: Any Chamber investor who desires to assist the Chamber in identifying and analyzing legislation, voter initiatives and other government actions that may impact the Huntington Beach business community is welcome to join the committee. Members are required to attend the monthly meeting to maintain their position on the committee.

Government Affairs Committee: State of the County 2021

Thursday, April 29, 2021

Virtual check-in: 7:45 AM

Program: 8:00 - 10:00 a.m. via Zoom video conference

We cordially invite you to our State of the County, OC 2021. On April 29th, we will be hosting our annual State of the County with special guests such as OC Supervisor Katrina Foley (Second District), County Executive Officer (CEO) Frank Kim, and Sr. Vice President of Advocacy and Government Affairs Jennifer Ward from Orange County Business Council (OCBC)! Panelists will be representing various types of organizations who will share their point of view on how the pandemic has affected their businesses, from the restaurant industry, to the visitor's bureau.

The State of the county invites regional legislators, service providers and business organizations to update attendees on the challenges our county faces regarding important topics.

COVID-19 has undoubtedly impacted businesses, but as we approach the end of the pandemic, we focus on how Orange County has responded, is recovering and rebuilding to move forward to a successful 2021. Topics that will be discussed include the impact of Covid-19 on the county budget priority, impact on businesses, and plans moving forward. There will also be a panel discussing how to successfully transition from Covid-19, moderated by HB Chamber Board Director and Government Affairs Committee Member Beth Hambelton from MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center.

This event is free and open to the public. The virtual event will be held on Thursday, April 29th from 8:00 - 10:00 AM via Zoom. Advance registration is required to receive the Zoom meeting information.
